Ievgeniia Kupchan

Ievgeniia Kupchan (b. 1992, Luhansk, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian multidisciplinary artist and independent curator based in Kyiv. She holds a BA from Taras Shevchenko Luhansk National University (2013) and an MA in Psychology from V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (2014). She has further developed her practice through Marie de Brugerolle's post-performance method, Marina Huts’ Contemporary Art course and Natalia Lisova’s Land Art School.
Kupchan has participated in residencies including the Art in Lov Residence (Finland, 2025–2026) and ISSP Latvia (2025). Her works have been presented in exhibitions in Ukraine and internationally, including Berlin, Germany and Loviisa, Finland, as well as at the European International Book Art Biennale Artists’ Books: Memories of the Future (Ukraine, 2025) and the Third All-Ukrainian Levkas Biennale at White World Contemporary Art Center (Ukraine, 2024). Her works are held in private collections and galleries in Ukraine.
As a curator, she has organised projects including HER WRECKS at Imagine Point Gallery (Kyiv, 2024), Angelina’s TV. Mr. Serhiy’s Zoo at Eye Sea Gallery (Kyiv, 2025) and exhibition and performance projects within Ukraine Fashion Week at the invitation of Lilia Poustovit and in collaboration with the works of Pavlo Makov (Kyiv, 2025).

/ ARTIST STATEMENT

Since 2021, I have been developing the method of post-performance in Ukraine, introduced by French curator Marie de Brugerolle. My practice combines photography, land art, performance, collage, interviews, essays, objects and installations, exploring the transformation of performance into an object of engagement through corporeality and interaction. I also work as an independent curator, organising collective and solo projects that extend the performative qualities of my artistic practice.
In my work, I explore the body as a space of experience and a practice of choice, a means of expressing identity, focusing on personal encounters and forms of connection between people. My works create a dialogue between art, the subject and the audience, where the viewer’s interaction becomes an integral part of the piece.
I have participated in Ukrainian and international projects and residencies, including the group exhibition NoCore: NewColab (2026, Finland), Art in Lov Residence (2025–2026, Finland), the European International Book Art Biennale Artists’ Books: Memories of the Future (2025, Ukraine), ISSP Latvia residency (2025, Latvia) and the Third All-Ukrainian Levkas Biennale at White World Contemporary Art Center (2024, Ukraine). My works are held in private collections and galleries in Ukraine. I live and work in Kyiv.

/ IN RESIDENCE

During the residency, I focus on three projects.
My works explore living with post-traumatic experience, adapting to a safe environment, coping with news from home and remembering Ukrainians who were killed in Russian attacks while I was staying abroad.
Two of the three projects combine land art, performance and photography. The project about adapting to a safe environment is presented as a photo essay.
I still do not know if all three projects will be included in the final exhibition.
However, I will continue working so that the final works invite visitors into post-performance interaction and allow them to have their own experience of these themes.
